E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic is being put under fire for making what came off as a racial slur against Zendaya Coleman.
On last night’s episode of fashion police, Rancic made a statement about Coleman’s hairstyle for Sunday night’s Academy Awards.
“I feel like she smells like patchouli oil… or maybe weed,” Rancic said on fashion police.
The comment, which was made during Rancic’s critique of Coleman’s overall Oscars look, didn’t sit well with many viewers of the E! show. Many took to social media to express their anger about Rancic’s comments.
Coleman herself even responded on her Instagram page, stating that, “there is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful.”

Rancic apologized for her comments on Monday via her Twitter account. In her post, the correspondent stated, “Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others,” “I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!”
Personally, I do believe that Giuliana wasn’t trying to be racist. If you watch fashion police, most of the time all of the hosts are doing and saying anything for a laugh. But I do think that all jokes aren’t good jokes, especially those that involve black people and marijuana being said on a platform like fashion police. At best, this was an uneducated observation altogether and hopefully the public doesn’t bash Rancic her or her work forever.
Positive note: I LOVE the fact that Lisa Bonet was Zendaya’s inspiration for her look!
